PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of synthetic chemicals nicknamed "forever chemicals" because they don't break down - not in the environment, and not in the human body. They're commonly used in textiles for water and stain resistance, which means they show up in more swimwear and towels than most parents realise. Some research has linked PFAS exposure to hormone disruption and immune system effects, which is exactly why we didn't want them anywhere near our fabric.
Why it matters more in swimwear and towels
Swimwear and towels sit close to the skin for hours at a time - often wet, often warm, which makes it even easier for chemicals to transfer. Babies and little legends are especially vulnerable here, simply because their skin is more absorbent and their bodies are still developing.
